This type of fraud occurs when your new or replacement card - being sent to you by your card company -
is stolen by fraudsters.

Those most at risk from this type of fraud are people with communal letterboxes,
such as those living in flats and student accommodation or people who have
moved and not redirected their post.

The cost of mail non-receipt fraud

The main reason behind the large decrease in mail non-receipt fraud seen in the last few years is because fewer cards and PINs are being sent out than in the years when all cards were being upgraded to chip and PIN.

This means that there are fewer opportunities for cards to be intercepted. Even when replacement cards are issued, the cardholder already knows the PIN, so the PIN is not sent out. If a fraudster intercepts the card, they are unable to use it at a shop or cash machine in the UK without the PIN.
